INTRODUCTION: Hello
friends and welcome to the Glaze Family Outdoors website. Our family
grew up hunting, fishing and learning a deep appreciation for the
outdoors. Our father taught us, his father taught him and we're
teaching our youngin's as well. Our family has always been close and
it's not just the brothers who are part of our hunting camps, it's
uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces...and a lot of friends as well.
For
many years now we have been taking our video cameras into the woods
with us to film our hunts. Sometimes we go as a pair, one hunter and
one cameraman but most of the time we do it all ourselves. What do we
mean by that? Well, one person filming themselves as they hunt. Oh
we've come up with some whopper ideas to make this easier, some good
and some just flat out ridiculous but we've tried them all and we're
developing some tried and true methods.
After collecting many
years of video footage we starting putting them together into movies
and after a few years we're starting to get better and better at it. We
have a long way to go, but if the Glaze boys can do it, you can too.
So, explore our site, check out our contraptions and watch some
quicktime movies. If you like what you see, visit our store and pick
some stuff up for your home viewing and in-field hunting pleasure.
We'll
be doing even more videos in the coming year as well, including our
yearly hog hunt down in the Florida panhandle. To see our past hunts
down there check out the Black Hog Down series. It's a combination
archery (our preferred method) and rifle (our preferred method for
filling the freezer fast). We hope you enjoy what you see. Let us know
what you think and we'll keep you posted on upcoming news including
where you might be seeing us on the television next year.
God
bless and remember; hunting season is family season. Get your family
out there with you and teach your younger generations the love and
respect we're sure you share with us when we sit on God's front porch
(thanks Primos).
PRODUCTION DETAILS Ok,
here's the deal. We're just a bunch of blue collar guys, we work day
jobs (most of us are brick layers) and we do EVERYTHING ourselves. That
includes paying for everything. We don't have any sponsors, but we'll
be honest, if someone wants to sponsor us we'll take it, we don't get
free hunting trips and our video equipment was mostly bought at a
department store. This is strickly a do it yourself project from
learning how to film (through many years of trial and error), learning
how to edit (after buying the software) and learning the best ways to
get decent footage.
So here's the point. If we can do it, anyone
can do it. None of us went to college (actually, between us we might
have one high school diploma and one GED) and none of us took classes
to learn any of this. That only means to us that with a little bit of
motivation and some serious time and effort you can make movies too.
And we want you to. We want to see them!!! We're addicted to hunting
videos as much as we are to hunting...well ok, almost as much.
One of these days we're hoping to make a video showing how to make a video the way we do...
Also
important to note is that WE ARE NOT TROPHY HUNTERS. If someone wants
to bag that trophy buck with "huge mass, a split G4 and double brow
tines" then fine, we have no problem with that. For us, the trophy goes
in the freezer...then in our belly. We're not poor, but we're far from
rich and game meat goes a long way in offsetting grocery costs. So, you
will see that if the animal we're hunting is legal, we're taking it. So
don't expect to see us on managed ranches paying $5000 for a trophy
buck. We can't afford that (like a vast majority of hunters) and
wouldn't pay that for a set of antlers when a 4 point from the state
game lands fills the freezer as well as a 14 point from a private
ranch. Again, we're not saying people shouldn't hunt trophies, we're
just saying we're like most of you reading this...blue collar guys who
love to hunt and need the meat.
THE THREE TURKEYS You
may see some references to the Three Turkeys either on the DVDs or on
the website. It started when Bob Jr., Tom and Ottie were waiting for
Roy get get set up so they could film the narration segments for Black
Hog Down 1. They couldn't decide what they were going to call the
production "company" and Roy blurted out "You turkeys gotta come up
with something. There you go, Three Turkeys." And that was that until
recently when after a few years of doing the movies everyone realized
that it's a huge family affair so the name was changed to Glaze Family
Productions. Ottie doesn't mind, he's been around us his whole life and
aside from the Pennsylvania accent he's one of us now.
GFO HUNT TEAM The
core members of the GFO Hunt Team are Bob Glaze Jr., Roy Glaze, Ottie
Stratton and Tom Glaze. They are most often joined by Rod Glaze, Danny
Glaze and David Jurmanovich but you'll see a large and diverse cast of
characters on the videos.
GFO PRODUCTION TEAM Just
about every hunter films themselves in GFO films so the cameramen in
most cases are the hunters themselves. GFO is truely a family affair
with Bob, Roy, Tom and Rod handling most of the production issues from
artwork to video editing to directing and producing all of the videos.
Everyone has a job to do and everyone has their areas of input and
expertise. Sure there are some arguments but in the end we all trust
each other to do their parts and do them well.
FAMILY TREE Well let's see now. There are sure to be the questions about how we're all related to each other so we'll try to explain:
GLAZE FAMILY Bob
Sr. - That's our dad, we call him Pappy and OB (Old Bob) for short, he
was married to our beautiful and wonderful mom, Eileen. Pappy passed
away in November of '05 (see OUR PAPPY).
Brothers:
Bob Jr. - He's the oldest boy, there are six in our family...five boys and one girl. The girl (Jan) is the oldest.
Roy - Roy is responsible for all of our video editing and much, much more.
Rod
- Rod does our website and artwork. He's a studio artist in Chicago in
the advertising business (trust us, you've seen LOTS of his work).
Russ - Russ comes with us every once in a while, we wish he could come with us more.
Ron
- He doesn't hunt much anymore so we don't get him in our movies. But
with seven kids and quite a few grandkids he's busy enough for all of
us.
Cousins:
Tom - Tom, or t-man, is one of the core
hunters in GFO. He and Bob live up on a mountain in Pennsylvania where
all they have to do is walk across the field to start hunting. Lucky
so-and-so's.
Ed - We're hoping to get Eddie out with us to film
soon! He's Tom's older brother and one heck of a guy...then again, he's
a Glaze so that goes without saying.
Danny - Danny (sometimes
Butch) is another cousin who you'll see in our movies. He loves to hunt
and loves to hang out with the family. We'd have him with us on every
hunt if he could get more time off of work.
So, here's the breakdown:
Bob Jr., Roy, Ron, Russ and Rod are all brothers and sons of Bob Sr.
Tom and Ed are brothers and sons of Uncle Ed (Bob Sr.'s brother)
Danny is the son of Uncle George (also Bob Sr.'s brother)
Hope that clears it up!
HUNTING GEAR Since
we have no sponsorships (yet) we use various brands but we'll try to
list what we use most. We're certainly not opposed to sponsorship and
using one quality brand though so if anyone is interested in what we're
doing just send us an email and let's talk!
Treestands/Blinds The
vast majority of our treestands and blinds are from Big Game
Treestands. They're sturdy, reliable and easy to set up. We use hang-on
stands, ladder stands and blinds.
Bows Most of us shoot
Mathews bows. One of us shoots a Hoyt. It's all a matter of preference.
But if there's a bow manufacturer that wants to give us all new bows
we'll be happy to take them and use them in our movies :-)
Arrows Some of us use Easton Light Speed and the Gold Tip.
Broadheads Muzzy is our broadhead of choice.
Guns We
mostly hunt archery so when it comes time to pull out the guns we shoot
what we have. For most everything we use 7mm rifles. We have some
Remingtons, Winchesters, Savage Arms and a few others and they're
all great.
OUR PAPPY You'll
have to excuse and induge us here. We lost our dad in 2005. He is the
reason any of us do this today. His father taught him and his brothers
and he taught us. He was an amazing man who made a huge impact on
anyone who was ever around him. Over the course of his life he was a
brick layer by trade but also a hunter, fisher, cattleman, trapper,
guide for mountain lion hunts, fence builder (in some of the roughest
country in Arizona) and even a race car driver and mechanic (with his
brother, our Uncle Ed). His stories were fascinating and his vast
knowlege of just about everything outdoor and construction related with
staggering. We miss him everyday. I've personally (this is Rod writting
this by the way) come to believe that if God has a game warden, Dad was
appointed to the position as soon as he reached the pearly gates.
